**At San Francisco’s INTERFACE hackathon, student developers used Dot Pad X to explore new applications for tactile technology, from understanding 3D spaces to creating inclusive games.**

Giving developers the opportunity to experiment with tactile technology can open up new possibilities for accessibility and inclusion.

That’s why Dot Inc. supported INTERFACE: Hack the Space Between, an official a16z SF Tech Week hackathon held in San Francisco on October 10–11. Organised by UC Berkeley students Sissi Wang and Iana Lin, the event gave student developers access to Dot Pad X devices and technical resources to help them turn their ideas into working tactile applications.

Two projects stood out, exploring how tactile technology can help people understand spaces and create experiences that blind and sighted people can enjoy together.

## Memoir: Exploring spaces through touch

Winner of the hackathon's **Best Touch Project**, Memoir is a wireless braille system that translates 3D scenes into tactile output on Dot Pad. It explores how people who are blind or have low vision could feel the layout of a space and understand its contents.

## Feel My Drawing: Creating and playing together

Built using the Dot Pad Web SDK, Feel My Drawing is a two-player drawing game that translates sketches into tactile graphics. Players can draw, feel and guess together, creating a shared experience for blind and sighted participants.

## Supporting the next generation of tactile innovation

Both projects show what students can explore when they have access to the tools and resources to develop their ideas.

By lending Dot Pad X devices and helping participants get started, Dot Inc. supported developers in exploring new applications for tactile technology, from understanding spatial information to making creative play more inclusive.

Supporting this kind of experimentation helps more developers discover what's possible with tactile graphics and braille, and encourages new ideas for making digital experiences accessible to more people.
