Braille Against the Odds | April 2026
A powerful new episode from Dot Inc exploring braille education, tactile literacy, and accessibility in underserved communities.
In Episode 10 of Raising The Dots, we share the extraordinary story of Samira Mohamed Lamin - a braille educator and advocate whose journey spans refugee camps in North Africa and specialist training in Spain.
Born in Smara within the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria, Samira lost her sight at 17 after years of limited access to medical care for glaucoma. Determined to build an independent future, she travelled to Barcelona to learn braille, mobility, and daily living skills with the Spanish National Organisation of the Blind (ONCE).
Today, she has returned to her community and is driving change from within - founding the Himma Association and teaching braille and tactile literacy to blind children in the camps.
